Directorate General of Vocational Criteria: An Overview
The directorate general of vocational criteria and curricula development is tasked
with administering and developing vocational qualifications, designing training
programs, preparing and developing curricula and developing the training process
at the public and private training establishments to avail required output for the
Omani labor market. Such an objective is achieved through a direct relation with
the vocational criteria and skills test center.
The directorate comprises the following departments:
- Private training establishments department
- Curricula development department
- Training quality control department
- Tailoring centers department.
The directorate carries out the following tasks:
- Conducting research and studies to develop the Omani vocational training system
in order to enhance its role in pushing the economic progress by availing well trained
citizens to take up job opportunities provided in the labor market.
- Supervising the development and preparation of educational and training prorams
and curricula of public and private training establishments, in coordination with
the concerned authorities ( employers, employees etc.)
- Studying general vocational trends in the light of developmental progress and drafting
a mechanism to meet their requirements.
- Drafting training institutes and centers` classification basis and identifying licenses
terms and conditions for these institutes and centers.
- Preparing the national framework of vocational qualifications in cooperation with
the vocational criteria and skills tests center.
- Guaranteeing the quality of vocational training in both the public and private sectors.
- Preparing a national test and vocational certificates award system in cooperation
with the vocational criteria and skill tests center.
- Cooperating with the vocational criteria and skill tests center in preparing and
developing vocational criteria for all vocations available in the Omani labor market,
according the requirements of this market.
