The total profit of the small and medium enterprises within the Sanad programme amounted to 91 million rials, according to a survey of the programme in 2009 in 12,000 enterprises financed or funded by it. Small and medium enterprises constitute 95 per cent of the total institutions in the country and play a pivotal role in energising various economic sectors. There are 117,000 small and medium enterprises across the Sultanate, according to the data from the Ministry of National Economy. Around 34,000 citizens were assisted by Sanad programme since its inception in 2001
