Collating statistics on Arab labour market must:: Bakri
MUSCAT There is a need to enhance the skills of all involved in collating data and statistics in planning for human resources and labour market in the Arab countries. They also have to be familiar with the modern developments, in the field, HE Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Al Bakri said on Saturday.
Al Bakri said that the seminar organised by the Manpower Ministry in collaboration with the Arab Labour Organisation (ALO) and which began on Saturday is a continuation of the efforts by the ministry and ALO for the future of the Arab labour market. The seminar aims at developing statistics of labour market, standardising statistical concepts and approaches and building standardised Arab statistical systems, he said.
Ahmad Mohammed Luqman, ALO secretary-general, said that the ALO is satisfied with providing attractive investment environment in the Sultanate, which will in turn provide opportunities for job seekers and alleviate their problem. The ALO is currently implementing a project to set up an Arab Network for Work Market Data.
HE Hamad Bin Khamis Al Amri, Manpower Ministry’s Undersecretary for Labour Affairs, said that the seminar aims at working out coordination on labour issues and bringing in labour for Arab countries that meets the demand of the modern age.
The seminar will cover various important issues, such as supporting work statistics capacities, collating work statistics and information technology (IT) among others.
HE Khalil Bin Abdullah Al Khonji, Chairman of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) on Saturday met Luqman in the presence of Al Bakri. The meeting discussed the agenda for the 39th session of the Arab Labour Conference to be held in Beirut from April 1 to 8.
The meeting discussed the role of labour unions’ freedom, unemployment in the Arab world, and role of private and public sectors in development. Al Khonji stressed the role of ALO in the development of Arab human resources. Bakri stressed the importance of training in enhancing the skills of workers and providing cadres for labour market.
